I have been playing again recently and as pretty much everyone knows, I am now Warderless. Themara has vanished off the face of the earth (I'm convinced she ran off with Adaina to be her pillowfriend) which leaves me a spare room which I'm thinking of converting into a rec room. Or perhaps a room with all kinds of pillows and a disco light with that song from the 70s going, "Love to love ya baaaby." goin in the background. Maybe a hookah in the middle of the room.. *ponder*
Anyway, back to the bond.
I've been listening to Lilla and Hrotti talk about the effects of it being broken. I've never experienced this myself as neither Themara nor myself died when we were bonded..at least not while I was active. But the effects look crazy.
That's fine and all if there are mad bonuses but I remember Themara telling me she suspected there was increased regen but when she tested against my other char, it wasn't that much different. She didn't get extra hps or anything and if she ate less, she didn't really take note.
The bonuses are essentially knowing the room the bondmate is in and bemote. This, I don't mind. If bonding is a primarily roleplay association with a perk or two..and they don't become uber because the Power didn't make them uber, the training did..that's cool. But I don't remember Lan not being able to swing a sword when Moiraine "died". In fact, he was more dangerous. Hrotti has trouble using forms now as I understand it. Alanna didn't have trouble channeling. Her warder died right before the battle of Emond's Field and she helped out with battling trollocs just fine. Lilla can't hold the source a lot of the time.
I'm not saying it shouldn't be dramatic. But I think that a lot of it should be geared more towards dramatic interaction with others rather than being unable to function. Siuan was a hot mess with the weeping when her ability restored. But she could still hold the source and channel and I don't remember her having to rest a whole lot more than anyone or unable to channel for periods of time after she channeled for a bit.
As it is, Arleve is a Green who is unlikely to bond another warder, with the exception of Themara if she returns just cuz I know the player is extra careful. But beyond that, I don't think the bond's neat experience from a Roleplay perspective (and it is) is really comparable to the detriment if one of our chars rip.
It just seems like we have sort of a primarily roleplay bond experience going until you die. Then you're penalized as though it was a heavily bonused bond experience. I think it should be changed one way or another. Either up the bonuses you get or down the penalties. At least the timeframe. Maybe a week or two or something. But a possible 3 months..for bemote and direction sense? Doesn't seem balanced to me.
Thoughts?
Additional thought: Maybe make the actual maluses last for a week or two..but have RP ones like weeping and that kind of thing last for as long as they do now.
