OK, so everyone in a military clan knows that it would be cool if there was more for us to do than PT and patrolling our respective cities, right?
Well, I had a wicked idea which I hope you'll like:
What if the various military clans got together once every so often (maybe 1 or 2 weeks irl) to do training exercises? I see a lot of potential here. First of all, this would give us all an excuse to get together for some centralized roleplaying (and a chance to earn those yummy fame votes) -- we could catch up on what's happening in other nations, spar a bit, etc etc. Basically give us a chance to mingle without using the evil 'gossip' or 'tell'. We could practice skills, have contests/tournaments, drink, etc. We could set up camps for the night, assign people to patrol. This is without even factoring in the cool things the immortals could do while we're gathered.
I agree with the fact that we, the players, should be responsible for generating most of the RP that hapens on the mud. BUT, I also think the imms should help us generate this RP, not just sit back and magically expect it to happen. I think an *imm supported (that is important!)* idea like this will allow us to generate RP mostly on our own, and have a lot of fun.
What do you guys think?

My reservation for this would be about the roleplay of the event. Training exercises would just not happen between certain clans. Children would not train alongside Tower clans, and The companions are unlikely to work alongside the Defenders.
A better way to frame it would be in the form of some sort of tourney. That would allow for a certain amount of animosity which would be held in abeyance during the event until the violence could be carried out on the field for the gratification of the observers.
The problem with this idea is the fact that there is no justification for it in Jordan's world. If we could simply say this is something that these nations might do so we can do it, I would not have any problem with it. I think it could be a lot of fun.

I like the idea of a tourney ... Just because the books didnt specifically talk about them, doesnt mean they didnt take place. You would definately need to put a notice on the mortal info board that a tourney would be coming up on a specific date, at a specific time to give players time to clear their busy schedule. Maybe get an RSVP list so we know that if only 3 players can make it, then its a bust. Lots of coordination involved, but could be fun if done right. Not sure if it would be possible to do with the logistics involved, but like I said, could be fun.

A tourney is a definate possibility, especially now with the inclusion of a breakable lance that can be charged with. I can also forsee such a gathering drawing gleemen to entertain the crowds between events, and nobles to pitch their skill against each other and various military representatives.
I can also see a tourney being split into different event arenas, such as the lance, the sword; and the staff for the common man. Unarmed combat may also be an option, with bare handed fighting techniques. Event winners at the end of the day could win some form of trophy, and gain in fame. It is actually one of the ways I was considering to assist in advancing in nation clans, as the fame would bring support from the people, and notice from abroad.
Also, I imagine it would do alot of people's ego good to be called 'champion of the lance' for the year.
Anyway, if there is a real interest, let me know, and I'll try and support it further on the logistics side.
