I know that the list of complaints and suggestions may seem endless but, as always I make suggestions that from my perspective may elevate the attractiveness of the MUD.
As of now, and a long standing understanding is the question of what exactly to do about keeping people having fun. Across other MUDs you find the following:
A). PK
B). Material Aspirations
C). RP
D). Quests
In regards to A).
PK is a real possibility around here with the emergence of the Darkside. No need to really elaborate here since the only thing that needs to be done to make PK fun is to implement the Darkside, and some cool combat coding which Max says he is constantly working on and adjusting.
Keep it up!!
In regards to B).
Material aspirations I think this MUD has excelled at. There is ALWAYS something to strive for. There are numerous clans, and you get the advantage of also being able to join multiple clans as well as your homeland clan. So while striving to become Captain-General of the Arafellian Rose Guard you can also be attempting to become King of Arafel. There' s a good monetary system and a ton of equipment to additionally attempt to build up assets.
In regards to C).
RP is the foundation of this MUD and yet I think that in some ways there is much more that could be contributed to it. The Immortals and players have a strong sense of RP, but what we need is more than the day to day interactions. We need politics, scheming, and controversy! I think that in part this means really establishing the Game of Houses in Cairhien, and also having the clan IMMs and RP IMMs be more interactive and have more latitude to do things. Have Clan IMMs present RP problems and have their clan members resolve them, or random mobs approach individuals. Imagine an Andoran noble coming before the Queen's Guard detailng a plot they heard someone is attempting to assassinate the Queen. Developing these things on a regular basis always has people working. I realize that I'm not being completely articulate, but I hope everyone is understanding the general idea.
D). Quests I think are really related to RP in some respects. Obviously creating some inter-clan quests would be really fun but again with the same idea as RP, if clan IMMs assign their members quests and tasks like...Find out which noble seeks to assassinate me! I think that leads room for a lot of fun attempting to uncover clues and additionally, sets forth a series of long lasting RP events. Iliana one time found a letter in the White Tower that must be some remnant of a quest or perhaps just an interesting RP tidbit. The letter was from a Novice about how she was leaving the Tower. Iliana and I RPed for a full week and a half about the letter, and I always looked forward to the sessions of RP.
So all in all? I think the solution to some of it is more interactive daily IMMs. I think this might add a little more fun to the IMMs as well to balance out some of the more tedious tasks such as spellchecking, potential burn out in building, etc. So at the end of the day when you're sick of coding a punch command, you can take out your frustrations and create a really killer quest. I'll be more than happy to contribute to this effort I just didn't know how to approach everyone and I wanted to know the overall opinion of such a line of ideas. Thanks loads,
Lillian
