I hope no WT ladies hate me for suggesting this, but I was being crazy and thinking of ways to make things even more RPish in the Tower! (Please bear with me, I just woke up not long ago)
Uniforms: Right now besides the novice dress we don't really have much going as uniforms (and ring/banded dress for the Accepteds) Now, I know we have restrictions on what we can wear: jewelry, weapons, etc. We're not supposed to wear anything too flashy, even in ribbons. That's kinda hard to judge sometimes, but I thought a way to solve this would be if we were given someway to obtain white hair ribbons, stockings, shifts, beltpouches (Egwene was given one when she was newly Noviced!), slippers, etc. I mean, even the some of the Novice mobs are dressed like this to some extent, wouldn't it look right if we were too? Or maybe I am asking too much for the lower ranks. But even the lowest ranked military clan members have a uniform...
Ranking and Progress: I've been rereading the series recently that's why some of these things have crossed my mind. Right now the way the way to gain rank is mainly through CPs and some RP. CPs are gained mostly through chores, some through fame votes for RP, and even less from awarding of CPs from higher ranked members for tasks and RP. This is a good system in my opinion I don't mean that it should be changed, but it all comes down to CPs and how fast you gain them to be eligible for rank, with some respect to when you last ranked, and RP effort.
What I wanted to bring up is a channeler's rate of learning, her promise if you will. In the books, Nynaeve was credited as a very fast learner who caught on really quickly, perhaps Egwene and Elayne as well, though I cannot be sure about that (perhaps E & E ranked fast due to their strength, but maybe they were diligent in learning as well). Before them, there was Elaida, Siuan, and Moiraine all who studied their butts off and had a fast rate of learning as well to rise as quickly as they did in the Tower. I am not proposing a way of speedranking in the Tower. I am however suggesting another way to distinguish oneself from all the other Novices who are all gaining their CPs in the same way.
1) If there isn't an inborn ability (or whatever) to learn weaves a little faster flagged within our character, maybe this is an idea.. if not.. there is my second idea.
2) I think those that study weaves all day, learn, and raise their weaves to 70% proficiency quickly deserve a little something. I don't know if this could mean a little leniency in ranking time, or a recognition of a fast learner, or maybe learning a weave or two before the required rank (does it have to be so strictly rank based! ), but I still think it deserves something. I'm not a zMUD genius or anything, I would hope that this doesn't mean people are setting up complex triggers to handle this sort of thing, I for one am too scared of burning out to leave my raising of weaves to triggers. I guess someone a little more knowledgeable in that area could make a more educated comment there.
3) Um, well I kinda just forgot a bunch of my ideas. Hehe. All I wanted to do was make things a little more open ended. I'm one of those weird people who once they learn a weave or skill, hammer away at it all day and raise it as quick as they can coz it bugs me to see anything less than 70%. But it also exhausts the number of things I can do with my character. It's led to me RPing a character who throws herself into learning whatever weave she is taught, which doesn't have to be a bad RP, I suppose, but at the moment it is only RP. Anyways, I hope someone reads this, my opinion is that these boards are a little quiet. Ideas and criticisms welcome, but remember I am sensitive. Please don't tell me that my ideas are poopoo.
