Okay, was chatting with Shawny and Jaxon about this when they brought it up. What clan should have the duty of guarding the White Tower proper? We bandied that about for a bit, and came up with a solution of sorts. The regular Shining Guard should be concerned with the city of Tar Valon and the surrounding villages who use them for protection (clear down to Cryden Field I think, mebbe even New Braem) The Warder students are there to learn how to be the best fighters they can be in preparation for the Bond, or just to get the training and go back to their homelands (Galad and Gawyn fit that part methinks). So, in thinking back to the books, and remembering a few parts (the blue clad guys with the AS that go to get some of the Black Tower guys I think, and that in the Spiffy White Book Azil Mareed is mentioned as being captain of the Tower Guard) we came up with the Tower Guard as a subset of the Shining Guard specifically tasked with guarding the White Tower proper. They would be the more elite of the Shining Guard, with access to different gear, and better training. Working up a sketch of what that should look like, and seeking opinions on whether it's needed or not. To be in the Tower guard, you'd have to reach a certain rank in the regular SG, and maybe have a quest or something to get in to the TG. But, would that be too many Tower clans? Just putting this out for discussion for now :-)

Wouldn't the Tower Guard be the "elite" of the Shining Guard?
What about modifying the upper level ranks of the SG to conform that when you reach a certain rank you are moved to the Tower. Ie.. no longer beat cops but general or whatever.
Either way is good, it's a wonderful idea... i'm just thinking of ways to get your thoughts across without imposing more work.

yeah, I had thought of that, and just have the upper ranks supervise city security through the lower ones without actually getting too involved in it?

IMO the best thing to do is to develop the current SG clan. Right now it is the most developed Guard clan, with only a bit more work it will be "finished".
The SG should guard the Tower. That is logical since Warders guard their Sedai, regardless of where the Sedai are, while Warder students have other goals, not to mention that they are not very reliable in the eyes of the Sedai. Therefore I suggest that the lower SG ranks are the city/region patrols, the mid-ranks are the Tower guards, and the highest ranks are officers who lead both kinds of SG.
In any case, I believe the SG needs the following gear added to its issue list:
All shining armor types: right now the SG lacks gorgets, pauldrons, rerebraces and wristchains. All those items exist, they just have to be added to the issue code.
A SG uniform clothes. Those are very much needed, since there are only two dodger type gear pieces right now: cloak and belt. Jackets, pants, shirts, caps and/or boots might be added, designed in the SG colors(blue and white) and the Tower insignia. Also, shield and buckler gear can be added.
Finally, the SG needs clan rp oriented weapons. Would you trust a city guard armed with a morning star or a nasty spiked club? I wouldn't. Right now there are master weapons, which are for high ranks only. The lower ranks should use(and be issued): 1. Swords for reaching city guards ranks. 2. Spears for reaching city patrol ranks. 3. Pikes for reaching country guard ranks(pikes should give a bonus against mounted opponents). 4. Lances and warhorses for reaching country patrol ranks(this combination should allow charge attack) 5. Halberds for reaching Tower guard ranks. 6. Master Weapons for Officer ranks.
And one thing about warhorses: I don't think they should be available the way they are now. Warhorses are very expensive, highly trained animals.

The pieces of armor requested are in. Also, there is a complete (I hope) set of dodge equipment issueable in the Shining Guardsmen. About the equipment: I think it may be too confining if we were to restrict weapon class to ranks. However, I do see where you're going with this and I do agree that we should not see chains-wielding guardsmen. What we can do, instead of issueing different weapon classes in the clan, is we can make it so that when 70%+ skills are in, we have it related to the rank. eg. You can learn halberd class up to 99% at rank 5. This will probably get people to concentrate on the weapon class we feel are more appropriate without being too forceful.

New Braem is located in Northern Andor, so while it's likely the QG wouldn't mind sharing a drink there, they might take offense to find another military power patrolling it.

That's what I keep telling the recruits, leave the area alone if it's not near Tar Valon, we aren't the Queen's Guard, we don't do their job.
