I believe we can have a very interesting and unique way of handling prisoners rp in Mirrorsmud. This thread is about why, when and how players will become captives, and what happens thereafter.
OK, we have our faction/justice system implemented, we have our first criminals too. Now I see two possible "roads" of development. The first one is to mindlessly chase criminals and try to pkill them. The other is the possibility to have them captured, imprisoned, put on trial, and even tortured.
We already have prisons, the subdue code is in, the roping code for players is in development. The roping code should include some kind of noquit, while the prisons should forcesave. Prisons and proper ropes are to be available to the Guard clans of the major cities and the Whitecloaks. The Seanchan and the Shadowspawn will also have them. In addition, players who have reached lord positions in the Nation clans might have prisons in their manors.
However, there is a risk of keeping prisoners captured for too long. This has to taken care of, either by a mudpolicy that prisoners have to be put on trial in a reasonable time, or by implementing a suicide code, possibly connected to being hungry/thirsty.
Trials can be very useful for the rp. Usually, the higher Nation clans positions are in charge of the trials and the way the trials are handled will be one of the major clan rp for lords, advisors and monarchs. Possible sentences include fines, confiscations of equipment and/or property, clan demotions, fixed imprisonment terms, and even capital punishment.
If we strive after a realistic WOT world, we need torture in. With the system I have in mind, players will really fear and loath the Hands of the Light, the Seekers of Truth, bored fades, and those who abuse the Power.
Very few will have access to that kind of refined torture, it will require skill, tools and special torture chambers. Only the Hands and the Seekers clan will have all those, as well as the fades. The torture weaves will be very hard to get, and even harder to weave.
A torture round itself has different levels of intensity, but only two possible outcomes. The first outcome is the one the victim prays for: death. The other is a long term loss of hitpoints, that continues even beyond death.
So next time Semiraghe says you'd better start serving the Great Lord, think about it. Very carefully.
